Fair Trade

Ensuring that the things we buy come from sources paying a fair price to the original producer.

We believe we need to ask questions about the sources of the goods we buy.  We registered as a Fair Trade church in 2004.  This means we are committed to using fairly traded food items in our regular catering – coffee, tea, sugar – and to encourage the buying of fairly traded goods by our members.  We try to promote Fair Trade regularly.  We have our own Fair Trade stall after the morning service on the first Sunday of each month, selling a variety of food products, as well as cards, wrapping paper and stationery.

Joining in the movements to promote fair trade and to alleviate poverty

Using the political processes available to us to urge world leaders to make the world trade rules work better for the poorest.

St Augustine’s has been actively involved in the MakePovertyHistory and Trade Justice movements and we have worked with other local churches to raise awareness of these issues in our area.

We celebrated Fairtrade fortnight 2010 with an African Fairtrade teadance,  and are participating in the campaign for London to become a Fairtrade Diocese.  For further details of the London Diocese Fairtrade campaign, see here
